Since the first day is a Sunday
the delayed dawn goes unnoticed.
But darkness came late yesterday afternoon,
and this morning seems to go on and on.
When I wake each morning,
I look out my window to the west,
while still flat on my back and under the covers.
I can see the tops of cedars and oaks,
and lots of sky.
In recent days,
Jupiter has been sitting right on the window sill
when my alarm breaks its silence at about 5:30am;
this morning though Jupiter was high,
centered between sill and lintel.
That was the first thing I noticed
changed by the change in the clocks.
Lauren noticed the silence of the birds;
none sang as she first stirred.
But now, an hour late by the clock,
but right in sync with the planets,
the first sounds of the mockingbird
brings the first hint of dawn.
