common shelter

it’d be recognized
by zuni, persian, nordic,
holy, sacred space

self vue

just before he left
pablo looked out of his hotel room
one more time
and shot one last foto
in the morning light
of the urban towers
at the start of
another day
in LA

a moment in the pacific

on the edge of the world’s largest ocean,
7,400 miles northwest west of sidney,
two sail boats pass on a saturday in june,
close to shore,
near santa monica,
and I see it
happen

santa monica pier

even though there are face painters and singers and
sketch-your-portrait artists, and there is a ferris wheel
and a roller coaster and more that one toss-a-ring-game,
it’s still where
bait gets cut,
hooked,
and dropped
in the pacific

our lady of the lot

Each time she appears
she calls him Manuel
even though his name
is Miguel,
and even though she
has appeared many times,
Miguel still ignores her
at least, he says, until
she stops calling him Manuel.

He says it really is the only way
to teach her.

monoversity

They all appear to have been built at about the same time by the same people from the same set of drawings with the only variation being earth colored concrete or glass and the choice between sharp angle or the roundness of tubes.

Must have been two architects in LA during that time.

lot going on on the back of that headrest

i watched tony testify while soaring at 30,000 feet,
he and the 767 soaring evenly, softly, over the earth,
no air-pockets, no miss-speaks, no off-course drifting,
while far below rivers meander along and mesas jut up,
and the low hum-roar of flight is lulling,
dulling the split screen’s screams
