Sunday at Ellaville
Not long after the new bridge opened at Ellaville we drove down to take a look. Didn’t get away from the house as early as we’d liked, but there was little traffic being Sunday. The whole drive, nearly 50 miles, took just over two hours. We were the first weekenders in the park that stretches to the west side of the Suwannee, so we took a walk along the bank and under the bridge. It is really a fine piece of construction. We decided to picnic on east side of the river where the bank was higher and more heavily wooded. Driving over the bridge was smooth and as secure as any road I have ever driven on. We ate lunch and spent most of the afternoon lounging in a stand of very mature pines situated on a bluff 20 feet above the river with a splendid view of the bridge that proved near hypnotic. We left later than planned and did not get back to Monticello until near dark. All in all it was a very fine day.
