Spider Season

There is a point in the coming of spring when spider webs appear. The web season creeps into the yard until there is a day when I remark in wonder “Hey, did you see that web out by the ginger?”

There are many and they are varied. Some seem to be in a spot for a day or so, while others take up solid residence for weeks, which may actually be the greater part of their lives.

There was one who lived outside the bathroom window last spring. Strung between the eve and the side of the house, the web must have provided well for it was occupied for the season.

The arrival of the banana spiders would be an annual event marked on calendars and in rituals were I creating a culture. Seems to be the telling us something, but what I don’t know...yet. Seems to be about a month from now, mid May, early June. first thick, humid air and p.m. thunderstorms, and the arrival is always dramatic and their presence commanding.

So as spring continues to unfold, I will watch for spiders and listen for what they have to say.
