Ruido de Sables

[Thoughts after Iran's actions - News Here]

No one’s blood is shed
when sabers are rattled.
Once drawn, death ensues.

It is something to consider when we think of saber-rattling as a negative, an act worthy of a schoolyard bully, not a mature state of stature, but what may not be accomplished by diplomacy, may be achieved with a stern warning. The saber rattling is not a knife in the back, a surprise attach, a sucker punch; it is a warning.

When the USA and its big friends practice maneuvers in near sensitive borders or re-position troops and fleets, it is a show of support. When a small state with limited defensive means tests its tools, the big boy nations are dismissive and accuse the small state of instigation confrontations, of saber rattling.

But until sword is drawn, it is no harm to men or women or children. When the sword leaves the scabbard, its rattle ceases, and there are cries and cries.
