Compost Cafe

Shortly after constructing the compost pit we started using a cool piece of pottery that had never had a kitchen function, an in-house function, as a counter-top-collector of waste compost-bound. It’s worked wonderfully. In its previous outdoor life it had served as a container for cut flowers.

Recently, it was filled with compostables and procrastination seized me. The container made it as far as the back porch, and hen sat there on an upturned orange crate. The following afternoon it's prsence could not be shared on the porch, so it was relegated to the back yard, just away from the house and on the path to the compost pit.

It sat there over night,
a delight, oh such a delight
for tiny paws and masked eyes
exploring the selection,
savoring the freshness,
indulging by being picky.
The lid, gently leaning against the pot
a sign of respect to ownership,
and thanks for the buffet...
......and sorry for the mess.
