When I got my number
I laid the page of the U.S. News & World Report
on the glass of the photocopier in the reference section
of the Carrie Rich Library,
and copied it
and colored it with pencils
with my date
my number
in the center
white hot
and the colors getting cooler
the farther away from
my number they went,
then I hung
the colored sheet
on my wall
and sighed.
